DOUBLE MAJOR AND MINOR PROGRAMMES

Students of the Faculty of Law may pursue a double major or a minor in other undergraduate programmes of the University while continuing their law studies. Students who complete a double major programme receive a second bachelor's diploma, and students who complete a minor programme receive a minor certificate. Both programmes are run independently of the major programme and do not affect the student's academic standing or graduation in the law programme.

Double Major Programme

The double major programme allows students who are successfully pursuing their major undergraduate programme to take the courses of a second undergraduate programme and earn its diploma. A double major protocol with the Theology programme of the Faculty of Theology is in force for students of the Faculty of Law. The protocol process with the International Relations and the Political Science and Public Administration programmes of the Faculty of Political Science is ongoing. The list on this page will be updated as new protocols enter into force.

To apply for a double major programme, all of the following requirements must be met:

• Applications may be made at the earliest at the beginning of the third semester and at the latest at the beginning of the fifth semester, counted from the first semester of registration in the major programme.
• All courses taken in the major programme up to the semester of application must have been passed, and the cumulative grade point average (CGPA) must be at least 3.00 out of 4.00.
• The student must rank within the top 20% of his or her class in the major programme. A student outside this group may apply if his or her score is not lower than the base score of the double major programme for the relevant year.
• If the language of instruction of the programme applied for differs from that of the law programme, the student must meet the proficiency requirement of the ASBÜ School of Foreign Languages Regulation on Foreign Language Teaching and Examinations or document a sufficient score in an examination recognised as equivalent.

In the double major programme, at least 80 ECTS credits must be completed from courses offered by the department running the programme, excluding courses counted as common to both programmes; common, equivalent and additional courses total 240 ECTS credits. Graduation requires a CGPA of at least 3.00 in the double major programme. The double major diploma is not awarded before the student has earned the right to graduate from the law programme. The double major registration of a student whose CGPA in the law programme falls below 2.50 is cancelled, and a student who does not take courses for two consecutive semesters without leave loses the right to continue in the programme.

Minor Programme

The minor programme enables students who are successfully pursuing their major undergraduate programme to gain knowledge of a specific subject in another undergraduate programme of interest. Students of the Faculty of Law may apply to the departments of the University that offer a minor programme, within the quotas these departments allocate to law students.

• Applications may be made at the earliest at the beginning of the third semester and at the latest at the beginning of the sixth semester, counted from the first semester of registration in the major programme.
• Up to the semester of application, the CGPA must be at least 2.50 out of 4.00, and every course taken in the major programme must have been passed with a grade of at least DD.
• If the language of instruction of the programme applied for differs from that of the law programme, the foreign language requirement must be met.
• Students may apply to more than one minor programme in the same period but may register for only one of the programmes to which they are admitted.

In the minor programme, at least 30 ECTS credits must be taken and passed from the courses set out in the minor application form. Students who complete the programme receive a minor certificate. The certificate is not issued before the student has earned the right to graduate from the law programme, and the CGPA in the law programme must not fall below 2.00. A student who graduates from the law programme without having completed the minor is granted up to two additional semesters by decision of the relevant executive board. A minor certificate does not confer the rights and powers of a bachelor's diploma in that field.

Applications and Announcements

Applications are made by the students themselves through the Student Information System (OBS) on the dates set out in the academic calendar, and the results are also announced through OBS. Quotas, the application calendar and the signed protocols are published every semester on the Double Major and Minor page of the Student Affairs Department (ÖİDB). In addition to the major programme, a student may pursue only one double major and one minor programme at the same time. The double major application of a student whose lateral transfer application is accepted in the same semester is not considered.
