The Symposium on Current Issues in Family Law within the Framework of Turkish Civil Law, organised by the ASBU Faculty of Law, took place on 13 December 2019.

The symposium was opened with speeches by our guest of honour, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin HATEMİ, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Mehmet BARCA, and our Dean, Bülent KENT. Among the participants were Zerrin GÜNGÖR, President of the Council of State, Selahattin MENTEŞ, Member of the Constitutional Court and former Deputy Minister of Justice, and guests from the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services, other public institutions and universities.

The symposium was conducted in parallel sessions in the Güvercinlik Hall and the Fuat Sezgin Hall. In the Güvercinlik Hall, the sessions on Parentage, Protection of the Child and the Financial Consequences of Family Law were chaired by Prof. Dr. Hüseyin HATEMİ, Prof. Dr. Mehmet ÜNAL and Prof. Dr. Fikret EREN; in the Fuat Sezgin Hall, the sessions on Maintenance, Family Mediation and Joint Custody were chaired by Prof. Dr. Fadıl YILDIRIM, Prof. Dr. Cihan OSMANAĞAOĞLU KARAHASANOĞLU and Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker ÖZTAŞ.

At the end of the symposium, the 81st birthday of our guest of honour, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin HATEMİ, was celebrated.
